basically the same at the first try since I was making 2 at the same time, but I changes a few things. One I used Water Locks for the finish. It went on well and took a while to dry since it is made with oil. one thing I didn’t like especially on the walnut is the amber color it gets once dry. Generally I like to use Lacquer because is seems to turn amberish like poly, but I lack experience so if you have any good tips/input please let me know.

Very nicely done. Well constructed and sculpted.
I like to use Walnut Watco on totally walnut projects. On mixed wood, I use Natural Watco.
Most often, the Watco is followed by satin poly and wax. Some times, I’ll skip the poly and go straight to wax. Depends on the use intended for the item.
The Natural Watco will deepen the colors somewhat. But, it seems to retain that color after application of the poly.

Thank you Gene Howe I’ll try some of those tips. I’ve only used wax on turned projects so far. Glad people like the box. I’m going to try a few more different designs.

Have your say...
