Most of the toys that I make have some historical significance or take at least a modicum of skill and ingenuity to produce I got involved in this one quite by accident. Had a customer at a show who wanted rubber band guns for their shop. I explained to them that is was not a product that I made and they left. A week later I get an order for 50 of them and then a second order from another shop for 20. Both customers insisted that the product could not retail for more then $10 and the lower the better. Both wanted a gun that would fit in a Civil War setting. I chose the tried and true silhouette of a gun with a clothespin firing mechanism. On one prototype I included a trigger to fire the rubber band and on the other just the clothespin. Both wanted just the clothespin so that is what they are getting. 2 days to make them including drying time for the glue cost of materials was about $30 and wholesale price was $4 each for a profit of about $250. One shop is selling them for $9 and the other for $6 so both are happy and I expect repeat orders for these things. Any one else ever get into a project like this? If there is any interest in the trigger mechanism I would be glad to post a picture after May 1st.
