Project Information
I went back to the wood store to get another piece of this stuff. It's great. I used to think that walnut was my favorite sawdust smell in the garage, but now this wood is at least a close second place. It just smells like High School woodshop to me, like granddad place, ya know.
Also, it turns great and has wicked grain patterns and colors.
This one is small. The dudes want $10 a pound for the blanks. So this was a 1.6# block, and it ended up a 5" round by 2.5" tall small bowl. There is another blank there that is 8.5#, and I want it, but geez, that's like a birthday present for a good friend type of money. Oh well, I guess that's what you get for having woodturning as a hobby. You pay a ton of $ for the honor of working a good piece of wood, and then turnaround and give it away because your wife doesn't want anymore damn wood bowls anywhere.
Its sanded to 400, with mineral oil and carnauba wax mixed a little runny, and buffed with paper towels.
The Rigged Photo Booth is that tar paper you put on the floor when you paint. Lights everywhere, including on in my hand right behind the camera.
