As inevitable as dawn…the nice piece of ash line. Nice platter, Joe!

Doug you beat me to it!
Joe another beauty. I think that ash is a wood that looks best when it is turned. The crain lines and ring really pop after it has been turned. The shot showing the inside of the platter proves my point. Nice job.

looks great. The knot appears to be an eye that keeps following you around the room, like a painting in a haunted house.

Nice job Joe. I guess there are no combatibility issues with the wipe on poly & the tung oil/varnish mix.

Joe, another great turning! I agree with Brian, the grain in the platter is incredible.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks everyone. The funny story about this wood is how I acquired it. I was shopping for some wood. There was a large selection of exotics including a huge, beautiful big leaf maple. I kept drooling over the big leaf and was trying to justify paying $150 for it. The more I thought about it, the more a was drawn to this piece of ash. It wasn’t marked and appeared to be the first time someone had used a chainsaw. It looked pathetic. I took it to the counter and asked how much. The clerk said, ” I don’t know what species it is or how much to charge you.” I offered him $10, and we were both happy.

Beautiful Joe. Joe, the Northwest Fine Woodworking Studio in Seattle, Wa. is taking apps. until Sept. 30. for their annual Box and Container Show. If you go to their website, Northwest Fine Woodworking.com , it explains everything and gives you directions. While you’re at it check out the work of Stephen Hatcher, if you already haven’t. I think you’re work would be easily accepted. Good Luck if you do.
