After watching and admiring the vases that Steve Carmichael Created awhile back. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/97115
I thought I would take the opportunity to post my first project. It’s surely not my first project ever. There are many. It’s just the first posted here. More will follow.

My vase is different in that I had to use aromatic cedar to make it instead of Western Red Cedar as Steve used. That turned out to be a bit of a mistake for a couple of reasons. First is that my wife is allergic to the smell of aromatic cedar. Secondly it took several coats of brush on Laquer to kill the smell. Both outside and inside.

Another mistake was I followed Steve’s lead and forgot to sand the inside of the vase before I glued it together. Having said all of that it turned out beautiful. I wish I could find a wood with the grain markings and beautiful coloring that Aromatic Cedar has. I still have 3 pieces of the stuff 4’ long and it’s stinking up my shop. lol

My and I picked up the flowers and twigs and Hobby Lobby. She used these vases for table center pieces for a group of ladies from out church when she entertained them with a luncheon. I might add that my vases got rave reviews. Yay me. lol

Enjoy. Your comments most welcome.

Nice looking vases, just curious, are those HF bar clamps?

Those look really nice Charlie! I’m so glad you made some and thanks for sharing them with us. No one looks inside to see if we sanded in there anyway…lol. I was thinking just yesterday that a piece of PVC pipe with a plug on one end would fit down in them nicely to hold water for real flowers. I like the look and scent of cedar but not the powdery dust.

Gixxerjoe04, Thanks for the comment. Yes, those are HF clamps. I have a lot of them. I told me wife, when I came home with a couple more, you can’t have too many clamps. lol

Steve, Thanks for the feed back. Glad you like them. I am thinking about using some of the Cedar I have left for band saw boxes of some kind. Your right about the powdery dust. It made a mess. I forgot to add that the light colored wood is from a piece of bass wood I had laying around my shop.

Umm! PVC inside. Could work. I’m kind of thinking about making a larger version of these vases. Or is it Vaases? lol
