So i was at walmart doing some shopping and found these UK bottle openers(I live in Kentucky), thought they were pretty cool and cheaper than about any bottle opener I’ve found online. I made one from barn wood before and decided to use nicer looking wood this time. Thought they came out nice and a lot of my friend’s are wanting them, i think if i get around to doing my first craft show this could be a popular seller(just assuming with the diehard fans here). Used walnut and buckeye. Hopefully UK beats Wisconsin this weekend in the final four.

Love the idea with the magnet to catch the tops. Can you provide some detail about what size magnet and how you installed?

Looks great.

A relative has been asking me to make him one.
Can you upload a photo of the back?
I would like to know how many, and what size rare earth magnets you used.
Also, how deep did you put them into the wood?

Thanks,

Used 1/2×1/4 inch magnets to hold it to the fridge and 1-1/2-1/4 inch for the one that catches the caps and it’s drilled out to like an 1/8 of an inch of wood left and the other magnets used to stick it to the fridge, they are sticking out a little bit. Here’s a pic of one I have drilled out, and I glued a fabric backing on them. The first one i did i used superglue for some reason and didn’t let it dry all the way before sticking it to the fridge, finace wasn’t happy haha. Switched to a hot glue gun and it’s worked fine. I put a few coat’s of danish oil on it to finish it, used wipe on poly for the buckeye because it seemed to never get enough danish oil since it’s so soft.

That’s a great looking bottle opener—and I really like the magnetic cap catcher, too!

I like this idea, but you’re just going to gloss over the fact that you used BUCKEYE for a UK bottle opener? Sell tOSU versions and charge twice as much (they’re just as crazy and drink 2x as much up in Columbus).

Have your say...
