This is a console table made to hold a large flat screen TV. It came from the plans found here:

It is made of pine and stand 2×4 and 2×6 studs. The only change I made was the top per the plans had the 2×6 running the long way but because of the big box store wood twisting I chose to cut them short and turn them. This allowed the stand to sit much flatter to the floor.

It is finished with Minwax ebony stain.

I like that top better than if they were the other way. Mixes it up, ya know?

I like it, but I don’t think you’ll ever be happy until the boards on top run the other way.

Besides looking for a better source of lumber, check it maybe a local cabinet shop can “dimension” the boards for you—run them through a jointer and planer. If you ask right, they might do it really cheap.
