My son’s wedding was last weekend.

The Bride’s Parents really out did themselves as accommodating hosts. My wife wanted to get them a fruit basket or something to express our appreciation, but the offerings at the hotel were less than stellar, we had a long drive and they had a flight to make.

I took yesterday off I usually do after travelling. I was thinking about the gift and realized I still had some pen kits.

Some of may recall, I made Bride and Groom pens.

There is always material left over after trimming the blanks and I rarely throw this out as it can be used for embellishments in other projects.

I also made a Treasure box/time capsule as well out of Plum from a tree that I took down. This tree yielded numerous pen blanks as well.

So I decided to use up the leftovers from the wedding pens, and use a few blanks to make these.

Hardware is a “Fat Cigar” style in chrome.
The white is left over Lucite from the Bride’s pen.
The Dark Brown is left over Cocobolo from the Groom’s pen
The main body of the pens are Plum.

Finish is 50/50 BLO/Mineral Spirits and 5 coats of CA (I intended these pens to be regular users)
Sanded to 600 grit and then finished on the triple buff with Tripoli, White Diamond and Blue Plastic buffing compounds.

I also made a box out of Cherry to serve as the prototype for the Time Capsule.

I thought these would make great gifts of appreciation and LOML agreed. These will be presented at the Seattle reception next weekend.

Enjoy

As always C&C are welcome.

Beautiful pens! The pretty wood goes well with the kit and finish is awesome. Great gifts indeed, mementos on the special occasion.
