this is my first furniture project was done in 1999 – 2000.
a copy of an existing empire octagonal table (original was made around 1800 – 1820).
materials – northern pine for the construction, solid burr of poplar for the edges, sliced burr of poplar veneer, round feet made of white birch.
glue – unfortunatelly I was not en expert in using the traditional animal hot glue at that time, so I used PVA or white sinthethetic glue.
hand polished with alchogol based shellac polish.
metal was not mine.
tools – circular saw to slice the wood, an electric jigsaw did not have band saw, the rest hand powered tools – planes, chisels, clamps and so on.

Really nice, especially with the limited amount of tools on hand.

What a wonderfully crafted heirloom, the finish gives poplar a whole new dimension. This is definitely a case of the craftsman’s abilities and not the tools capabilities.

I really like this piece, it flows in it’s legs and is much the same as my pieces, guess we both like this style of legs. Great job.
