I felt like making something a little different in a way of a box and had a certain person in mind who this box is for .
I was looking for a rustic look and think I got it close and he will like it .
Made from 1/2” cherry with dovetail splines which I accented, leather hinges and latch made from leather lace along with some horseshoe nails ,lined with beige upholstery cloth and finished with BLO and beeswax .
Size is 11 3/4 “X 7 1/4” X 4”
Had a good feeling building this box and made another box at the same time ,it is the same basic box but with a totally different look and I will post it soon as it is almost ready .
I like playing around with several projects at the same time because sometimes I need to step back and take a break from a project or wait for glue or finish to dry.
I get a lot of shop time lately because of the long winter we have had but spring is coming I hope soon .

Love it.

The bent top and embellished splines are way cool.

Has a very warm, pleasant feel to it. I like it. Rustic, maybe, but not “too” rustic.

You are becoming a very prolific producer Klaus.
It is getting difficult to come up with superlatives that I haven’t already worn out.
Imaginative, classic kiefer, and excellent come to mind but I’ve used them a lot before on your projects.

I know, thought provoking. That’s it. This one is definitely thought provoking, a conversation starter.

Thanks for sharing this.

That is a great looking box! I love the lid!

But I gotta ask: What the heck is a Zen box?

Thanks all for the kind comments and I thought I add a little comment of my own to answer some questions
Size is 11 3/4” X 7 1/4” X4”
Yes I have had a lot of time in the shop this winter because of the length and crappy weather but is has given me time to get some of those ideas that I have been kicking around built .
This one is just a box for a buddy and I used a simple rebate joint for the corners instead of a mitre and the leather hinges worked into the design just right .
The latch or hasp is a new thing for me but it worked out nice with the horse shoe nails .
I think I got the somewhat ZEN and somewhat rustic look that I was shooting for .

The Zen as for as I take it is a serene feeling that I have used as a design style to create a project with a warm and peaceful look and feel .
There are other definitions of ZEN but nothing in specific .
GOOGLE it it may explain it a little better then I do .
