One of my 8 year old son’s Cub Scout requirements was to build a birdhouse. I saw these plans and thought it was a great opportunity to help my son and to spend some time with my tools/sons. My four year old also wanted in on the action. So, I cut out the wood for two birdhouses and the boys put them together.
Although they certainly didn’t need it I used my biscuit joiner on most of the joints. I recently bought one and was anxious to get to know a new tool. It was nice for the boys because it helped line up the boards and nice for me to get some practice with the biscuit joiner on a project where tolerances weren’t critical.
The boys really like bright colors. I let them pick out the paint colors themselves. I know these are very simple, but since I’m new to woodworking it was good for me to get some practice.
