My first project that I actually painted and applied finish to.
Wood Magazine (Vol #83) November 1995. Page 70.
Used red oak for everything except the plywood top and storage box bottom. Used materials I already had in the garage, so the plywood top is just some shop grade plywood from Home Depot I had left over from some projects.
The circles are just a theme for the desk, and also cover some of the screw holes. They are not wheels. Finished it with 8 coats of water based poly. I let my 5 year old son pick the colors for the painted parts. His choices were: yellow, fluorescent orange, key lime green and candy pink :)
Also, for the pencil/pen holder, I realized all I had was a 2 3/8” Forstner bit for a hole that big, and that a SCH 40 2” PVC outer diameter is also 2 3/8”. So, just used the pipes as holders.
