We wanted my 2 year old to have a sandbox for her birthday, but without the commitment of digging up the backyard. Internet searching gave us the idea of a “sand table”, but the examples we found online were not up to our standards ;)

Wood: mostly pine, all from a big box store
  • Legs – 24” garden stakes
  • Apron – 1” x 4”
  • Framed top – 1” x 3”
  • Supports – 1” x 2”
Construction:
  • Joined with pocket screws and glue
  • Routed the outside edge of the framed top with 1/4” roundover bit
  • Supports a 52-quart underbed storage tote ($15) with 50-lb play sand ($4)

I love it. My little guy would go nuts for something like this. Solid work Dad.
