Kids door inside an adult door

It’s fairly self explanatory. A door inside a door. A smaller person can walk through the inside door while the main section of the door remains closed. I can’t take any credit for the main idea as I reversed engineered it from a picture on Google images. However, I did add personal details like a dog bone and train for door knobs; a flap door for you to stick your head through; plastic toy solders between plexiglass.
There is a space at the top of the door to act as a transom, as the room had always been too hot or too cold without a return air vent in the room.
Main problem was in keeping the bottom of the outer door aligned perfectly. I problem solved by adding a piece of wood at the bottom and lowered the door as low as possible so no one would trip over the added strip. It worked.

Very interesting and challenging project. Why the build?

Wanted a project to keep me busy before having my first child. His room had awful temp control as I mentioned and since we couldn’t leave the door open – have a cat and my wife nor I wanted the cat in the crib – we decided on this. Keeps the cat out, keeps the temp right, and something fun for him as he gets older.

Have your say...
