My mother asked me to make her a wooden cross for her bedroom. I made this project out of oak and it’s joined with half lap joints. The hardest part about this project was determining the ratio of the two pieces. I settled on 13 inches long and 6.5 inches wide. I stained it with a mahogany stain And finished it with a semi gloss clear coat of lacquer.

Hey, I’ve got plans to make one for my grandmother for Easter and her birthday. Looks nice. Thanks for the dimensions.

Nice looking cross you have there.

It is Cross making season, for what it’s worth;

When I make Crosses I always use 1:3 ratio,
width is half of height and I center the arm 1/4
way down from the top.

though I have had requests that I make the arm a little wider than
what you get with the 1:3 ratio

Not that I’m an authority but
they seem to be visually balanced (at least to my crooked eyes)

yeah before i made it i did some research on the ratio i did exactly what you just mentioned. I had a bit of trouble coming up with the dimensions though. I wanted it to look just right not awkward or lopsided.

It’s beautiful and well made. Like the stain and finish. I’m sure she likes it. Well done!
