My last bowl for a while

This is made from a walnut crotch, so it was a lot of fun (just kidding) roughing it out on the lathe, it gave the old Delta something to groan about. But happily I got through the knots and ruff spots thinking all the while Franks gonna love this. mike

Jim I used Waterlox(brand) and Polyurethane Wipe On, also (brand name). Very easy finish and it looks very nice, I sand it down to about 220 grit, wipe it off with mineral spirits aka turpentine, then apply 2or 3 coats of waterlox then 3 coats of the wipe on poly. Usually it comes out very nice. mike, Think Frank will like it Deb? With all those knots and rustic things.

Yea thats what you get in a crotch, so to speak. But thank goodness I’ve got a speed conrol and a band saw and lancelot it helped a lot to make the darn thing round enough to shape. Otherwise it would have blown into a gazillion pieces. thanks, mike

Mike, that is just beautiful. The finish makes it look like fine porcelin. Really, really nice. Now get going on that table before Karson has a nervous breakdown! ;-)

Mike,

I really like the way this bowl turned out. No pun intended…. I like the grain in the wood and the finish. Very nice….

Really nice, Mike. It looks almost ceramic. Nice twist for someone who takes a close look…

You brought a tear to my eye when you said it was the last one…then I noticed that it was just for a while. Mike, you do some of the most beautiful work. I wish I lived closer so you could teach me how to do that. I might have to get some Waterlox and use it with wipe on poly. That’s a great looking finish.
