This vase was inspired from the spectacular work of Bigogre Project 95519, if you have not seen his projects yet, you should take the time to look at them. As an experiment I decided to try and make a four sided pattern, by gluing the center section at 45 degree angles, then laminating a colored wood on the four sides. If I was to do this again I would make more laminations on the colored wood, and get more radical on the cuts and shaping. I would like to see someone else try this who had access to more colored woods. My plan is to cut the top off a wine bottle for an insert for natural flowers this summer. I do allot of gardening, flowers especially. The woods are birch from my property and mahogany that a friend gave me, finish wipe on poly and buffed, done before assembly.
Comments and suggestions welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking brian

Looks Great! I mapped one out last night to try a similar process. If you can get your hands on some veneer, give that a whirl. I think you will like it.
