Project Information

This is the 18" Ruler i made for Fatandy2003 during the 2014 Tool Swap
It is made from quarter sawn Apple Wood and has 1/4" brass inlaid on the face and one of the edges.
it measures down to 1/8th of an inch. Each mark and number was burned in by hand using a pyrography wood burning tool. I also included a blue drawstring bag to keep it in.
The ruler was finished with a combination of BLO and a very diluted red mahogany stain then finally with a tripoli buffing compound and Carnauba wax.
Enjoy

Jordan where'd you get the brass? I need to inlay a strip on my panel gauge arm. Outstanding work by the way.

This this is AWESOME! I just wish it didn't look so darn good. I will want to use it every time I am in the shop, but I also won't want to wear it out…

Thanks Jordan!

The brass stock I picked up at ace hardware.

I butted the wood against a large t-square and drew the lines with a mechanical pencil then went over them with the wood burning tool.

Thanks for all the kind words and comments.

Andy it should be pretty resilient. It's quarter sawn apple wood which is pretty hard. only thing you might have to watch for is banging up and scratching the brass edge..

I hope you can make it a user.

Just added to favorites. I think I might try this with some of my plum stock. I think I have some turning blanks that should work (If I Resaw).

Plum would be awesome. Just make sure it's quarter sawn.
