Five Board Bench

This is my first commission! My wife’s coworker asked if I would make her a bench. So I did and only charged her for the materials. I experimented with this one since I am still building my skills. I used some premium yellow pine from my local dealer here in town. There was a severe mark on the board they cut for me so they gave me an additional 6’ of 1”x12” for free. There is a reason to use local dealers! I used dowels instead of mechanical fasteners. I did not hate using dowels, but not my favorite method. My next bench I want to make using Dovetails on my new dovetail jig. Either way, it was a great skill building activity, super basic project, and very fast to put together. The finish is a water based finish which I do not like using…doesn’t bring out the grain the same as oil based. I covered it with a spray poly, sanded with 220, poly some more, then polished with carnuba car wax.

Let me know what you think!!

Your bench looks great and solid. Like the use of dowels and your finish is great.

Have your say...
