Bowls with rings

Project by Bob Collins posted 424 days ago 280 views 0 times favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Bowl 1 Tasmanian Blackwood 2 Camphour Laurel 3 Tasmanian Jarrah

Started putting rings on when I found out that the experienced guys at the local Wood Turning Club hadn’t
done them.

Great looking set of bowls. You got some nice looking woods over there.

I must not get out of the house much, I’ve never heard of rings on bowls… I have seen them on other smaller things.

Thanks for posting these!

Thanks for comments.
Dean. I had seen then on vases and thought why not bowls, a bit of a novelty. Don’t worry about your Social life a lot of other s thought I was strange putting them on bowls.
MsDebbieP. Couldn’t sell a normal bowl but the ring seems to appeal to some as a talking point.

Those rings really set your bowls apart from others. Great job on all three.

Never saw that myself, very cool idea. Great projects.

those are actually loose rings? thats pretty cool, It’s the first thing you see when you glance at them. I bet thats a great selling point. Like the look, like the wood, do you glue the rings after the bowl is complete?

Thanks for the comments, another way to put some fun into your wood turning. getnets, the rings should be cut in one piece from the bowl just a matter of patiences and learning to duck if they break and when they do break you wont find all the pieces to glue together. There is a tool on the market for this project, forget the correct name. I have glued rings together if I have found the parts but a blind can see it as they never go together perfectly. Have sold a couple but the older turners say “why would you put a ring on a bowl” makes me feel good that I are to be a self taught willing to learn and game to try anything.
