This is the most complex inlay work I have done. This commissioned cribbage board has a base of Chenchen inlaid with figured Bubinga and Maple Burl. The trim around the sides is also of Bubinga. There are two ruby cabochons at the “skunk” points. It was finished with Formby’s Tung Oil finish.

I love the attention to the details, Jeff. Making the Bubinga grain match throughout the inlay is incredible!
Nice call on the ruby cabs, too. Are those synthetic, I hope? You probably wouldn’t want to use natural in such a situation

Thanks, Ethan. Nice that you noticed that detail. It was painstaking to keep the veneer pattern intact across the board. Yes they are real rubies, but not terribly high-quality ones I won a batch of on Ebay. They came to only $1 each.

A board like that is enough to make a guy want to learn how to play Cribbage.

Really great work. Next time you do a project like that, post some in-progress photos so I can see how it’s done.

Another fantastic piece Jeff. The matching grain really makes this piece outstanding. Thanks for sharing it with us.
