I was asked by a friend of mine to build a little free library.
i never heard of it before.
She sent a a web link to http://littlefreelibrary.org/
There were so very cool designs.
I had a door from a old chicken coup i had in the shop that was to good to throw out.
So I came up with this idea of a cedar library featuring the chicken coup door.
the project has custom cedar siding, roof trusses , solid plywood roof with ice and water shield.
hand split cedar shingles, I was cutting shingles on my new band saw and breaking them down and hitting with a small plane to fit.
I got the hard ware from a old flea market stash i had in a drawer.
Finished it with Sikkens out door grade oil.
It sits a top a 6×6 cedar post with a mortise and tenon joint pegged and draw bored.
secured with a 5/8 threaded and square nuts.
i wish i could post more photos..
if any one wants more details drop me a note.

That’s a beautiful piece of work! I’ve had it on my list for a couple of years to make a little library and install it in my neighborhood… I really need to make time for it!

This is one sweet little library. You did a fantastic job. It’s greater than great!

You said you wished you could post more photos, you can by inserting them into the write up part of your post. I have a work in progress on my workshop post. Look at it and you’ll understand what I mean.

Looks very nice.
Really a neat project. Thanks for the link, I like the idea a lot and may have to get involved as well.
