Momma and the oldest girl are taking a cake decorating class. They needed a decorating turntable for the class. The ones that were offered to buy were overpriced pieces of plastic.
Being the great provider that I am (insert sarcastic voice), I decided that they needed something a bit more stylish and unique.
A couple lazy susan bearings, a pine board and some paint later came these two cake decorating turntables!
My wife spotted the font for the letters in a mug at the antique store. I put some color down. Drew that font on painters tape and cut it out. Sprayed some black and peeled the tape off to reveal the colored letters. Some sanding to wear the surfaces and show some more color through. Top coat with Deft sating spray lacquer.
The other YUM is to mount on the wall as a decoration in the kitchen. I actually did that one first, before the lazy susans.

Great font! tell her she has a good eye. I think my favorite part is the thought to sand thru some of the black paint. To me it almost looks like you did it with chalk board paint and used chalk.
I am glad that I am not the only one who makes things instead of buying cheap overprice plastic stuff!!!

And I was thinking it looked like you wiped the black paint off while it was still wet (the way Martha Stewart suggests) – which is always a real mess. Once again you worked smarter, not harder, I will have to remember that trick. Great Job!

They’re cool, pretty and unique. Like the colors and the font. Very lucky ladies, great job!
