At last I was able to have a proper go at the crown hollowing system that I brought.
This was using the cutters and scraper rather than the ring tool.

Wood is unknown except the ring at the opening which is cherry.

This measures 5” X 2 1/2”. I managed to get a small catch while I was cleaning the inside and damaged the lip so a quick fix with the cherry, the cherry not being enough of a contrast I used some stain to darken it.

Looks like a very fun project. The contrast stain color you chose sets it off just like if you had planed to add the ring. Nice job!!!

If you were in the US I’d say it’s American sycamore, which is different than what the brits call sycamore. Since you’re in the UK I shouldn’t even hazard a guess. Beautiful form. Well done!

I think it’s just brilliant. I bet, if the cherry ring had not been required, someone would have suggested a contrast. It just seems so right.

Nice….......very nice.
I’m sure hollowing will consume you now. It is fun and also a challenge.

Pretty and cool box! Awesome shape and the cherry gives a great contrast. Great job!
