I looked through some books for ideas, but ended up designing it as I went along. I really didn’t know what the heck I was doing as far as how I was going to mount the face and the movement in the case, but it all came together okay in the end.

“okay”.. yah it’s “okay”
ha!!
This is magnificent. I love how the marked wood copies the line of the pendulum. as well as the squiggles (that’s a technical term) on the face of the clock.

another beautiful “first”

For a guy who didn’t think he knew what he was doing.
It looks like he knew something about it.
Very Nice !!

Great clock. Where did you get that clock face? Your miters look incredibly clean. Nice job!

Beautiful Charlie. I agree with Thomas that your miter work looks terrific.

Thanks to all. Thomas, the face came from Lee Valley. It is 9 7/8 square and cost 20 bucks including the hands. The movement with pendulum were another $10. – Pretty reasonable, I thought.

Charlie – if you didn’t tell anyone that you built this without a plan, they wouldn’t have known – unless they asked you where they could get the plan. I assume that you used a quartz movement. Did the movement include chimes?

Thanks, OS. I posted pics on a woodworking newsgroup and got mixed reviews on the spalted maple back. Seems like people either love it, or don’t like it at all. I love it, but my wife looked at the clock for the first time and said “Wow, that’s amazing…. but I don’t like that funky looking wood in the back.” LOL!

Thanks! Yep…it’s not me, it’s the wood. :-)
