Thanks Steve for the inspiration on this box. I also took a que from David Picciuto at the Drunken Woodworker
with the layers.
The box shape is from Steve Ramsey at WWMM. I couldn’t download the template I drew it freehand. Big learning lesson here. The heart lobe is over the tray area. I had a very hard time sanding because of it. I ended up with a few ‘custom’ angels. Next time I will think about that before I start cutting.
The front and back are figured maple, the bottom is oak and the core is two layer of ply.
Finishing took a lot of time. I started by taping off all maple and staining the Oak and ply with Minwax Golden Pecan. Than I taped the oak and Ply and died the maple red. I added two coats of tung oil followed with a coat of 50:50 tung oil and poly blend. I added flocking to the inside of the draw.
I got a little help from my son.
