This project was built at the request of a colleague’s wife. She asked if I thought I could build her one and I said, why not? If anyone on lumberjacks sees resemblance to their works, it is probably because this was one of the first places I looked to get ideas for a project I had never attempted to build before.

This project is built primarily out of clear pine, with a red oak desktop. I used blue corduroy for upholstery of the pad, with some 3 inch green foam under. The pad is made removable for easy cleaning and re-upholstery in case of accidentally tears or soil. The knee pad is also attached with wing nuts so that it can rotate up into the desk support area for easy storage when not in use. The crosses are all about 6 inches tall. I route red the edges where necessary to kind of round them off and clean them up.

The entire project is stained in red mahogany and then clear coated with poly urethane satin to finish it off.

Height is 33” in the rear (to the bottom of the desktop) and in the front is 30”. I actually had a pretty cool idea with this project. I don’t really “draw up plans”. When I get my mind set on a project, I just grab the wood and go. As it goes along, the measurements work out and the final project is born. This makes it kind of difficult to recreate things. So for this one, I took some multiple angle pictures and placed them in a powerpoint presentation. From there, I added lines and measured everything I could think of that I might need to recreate it. I guess it was kind of “retro” plans? If anyone is interested in building this project, I would be glad to share my retro plans. :-)

Neat! Nice! Good job.

I like the way you do the pattern thing! I am also guilty of the same super method of plans.
