This has been my most complicated furniture piece to date. It is my own design and is built from solid cherry and maple with walnut pulls and dowels for accent. The center shelf is sized to accommodate an audio receiver and the top shelf is intended for Blue-Ray, Apple Tv etc. I spent about 4 months working through the various iterations of the design and it took about 5 months of nights and weekends to complete the build.
~50 bf of Cherry and Maple
100+ individual parts
60+ mortise and tenon joints.
Finished with shellac
The next piece I design is going to have a lot less parts, though my skills at fitting m&t joints have improved greatly. I used Old Brown glue for everything except the panel glue-ups of the shelves. The long working time was a blessing.
I have whole series of pictures of the build on my blog at http://lifeonwallst.blogspot.com/. Please feel free to contact me if anyone has any questions or is interested in seeing the sketch-up model.
Thanks to everyone who posts their amazing projects here for the inspiration.
I’ve put the sketch-up model in a public dropbox folder here if anyone is interested in it.
