We are in the process of remodeling our fire station and we needed some lights over the table I built. So I made a Oak ladder with track lighting built into it. Ladder is held to ceiling with pike pole hangers. All the wires are hidden in the hollow beams of the ladder and come out on top into a electric box with a switch to turn off and on. Going to put a clear wipe on poly finish to make the grain in Oak come out but not make it look too new. Some of the guys thought it should be burned and distressed before I clear coat it. Not sure if I am going to distress it yet. All comments appreciated.

Very nice. I would not burn nor distress it. Leave it looking new. We get damned few new things to play with anyway.
Cheers!
