This piece is turned from Orange Agate. It measures 5” tall by 5.5” wide. Orange Agate is a very dense, heavy, and hard wood. I was pleased with most aspects of this piece; shape, consistency, color, and finish. It was finished with Seal-A-Cell, Wipe-on Poly, and Briwax. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful! I really like the rim, simple but adds to the piece. Love the Orange Agate… gotta find me some of that! Thanks for sharing.

Hey Joe – I think I need to just start a permanent message for you, that I can paste in everytime you make something. Another great looking piece, since all your work looks great, what can I say? You are a master on that lathe of yours. Where do you get your orange agate from? I’ve never heard of it until I started seeing your work. Very cool piece, love the shape. Now go to bed and get some rest, I swear you must live by that lathe of yours. LOL

Thanks Dan. Orange Agate is a relatively new wood imported into the states. I understand that it comes from Peru, and was recently identified by biologists. I have been purchasing mine from the Peoria Woodcraft store.

Joe, have you accumulated enough of these yet to start your own wooden version of a Pottery Barn?
Gorgeous color on this one.

Trifern,
Once again, a beautiful piece… just once, could you post something that looks terrible, so we can all feel a little better about ourselves?
Just kidding, of course… I’m always impressed by your ability to find the beauty inside chunks of wood, and bring it out for all to see. Keep up the good work!
Oh, and congratulations on the “Fall into the Arts” show!

Amazing wood Joe, nice color and shape. Have you made up your mind about which two bowls to show? That’s got to be a meat grinder in your brain huh? Lots of luck friend. My prayers are with you.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. I really appreciate them all. This turned out to be one of my favorites, but the best one is the next one.
