This box is about 6” x 9” and is a Mother’s Day gift. Finished with BLO and multiple brushed coats of Zinsser shellac. I rubbed the top out synthetic steel wool and added paste wax.

There were a lot of firsts on this project. First time using curly maple (the tear out ain’t no joke, is it?), doing dovetails (with a router—and they are still far from perfect), and using shellac. I really enjoyed finishing with shellac, especially because you can apply it inside (makes a big difference when you live in an apartment in Ohio in the winter….)

Thanks for any constructive criticism.

PS, if anyone has any better ideas as to the species of the lid, let us know. There was already some discussion as to what it may be.

Woods look great together, along with feet and dovetails give it a very appealing look.
