Not a project, just a little tool because I’m lazy and don’t like opening and closing the vise. I like my wood up on the bench when planing, so in the past I’ve been using different size blocks 1st picture.
I finally realized a single 1/2” plate with a few holes would resolve the issue of having all these blocks, usually the wrong size. I can use it flipped forward or backward, but can now keep my piece on the benchtop rather than a mix between top and vise.

just flip the dog around from flat to round side to fit into the holes and prevent splitting.

Great idea. I’ve been attempting to come up with something to use in this manner with my dogs. Thanks for the idea.

Very good idea. I made a pop-up on the back side of my vise which does the same thing.
