These are canes I made for 2 separate clients but both were gifts for their fathers. I really like the look and feel of the Fritz style handle so here is my take on it. The first one is made from Black Walnut, Curly Maple and Peruvian Walnut. I wanted to have the dark and light contrast carried throughout the entire piece so I laminated the shank with the Maple and Peruvian Walnut and did a reverse of that on the handle with Black Walnut with Maple Accents. The second cane is made up of Apple, Peruvian Walnut and Curly Maple for the handle and White Ash for the shank. I loved the color of the Apple in relation to the other woods. My standard finish of Danish Oil and Gunstocks Finish was used on both pieces. Thanks for taking a look!

Both are very nice. Do you use a lathe to make the stick or you do it with a spoke shave?

Hi Sergio, thanks for your comments. I do have a lathe but these 2 were done primarily with a spoke shave. I chamfer all the corners on the table saw and then work it by hand. I am waiting to get a bed extension for my lathe to have the right capacity for canes but I am working on a 2 piece shank that I will turn and join the 2 pieces with a brass cane connector.

Very nice. I use a cane and may try to make one with some apple. That is an attractive design.

Gorgeous piece! The wood combo is really attractive and like the style of the handles and awesome finish. Beautiful work!
