I bought 300 Douglas fir 2×6’s for 100.00 that were being used in a warehouse for thirty years as flooring. No nails and almost 2 inches thick with close growth rings and were quartersawn. I resawed enough to make this hutch. They had a very red tint to them so I just put a clear coat on the project.

Very sharp. Nice haul on the lumber, too.

Good looking piece, and a great score on the lumber!

I like how the design fits with the rest of the room, as if it was built with that spot in mind.
BTW, welcome aboard.

A very clean design. I like the colour as well.
Is the rear of the cabinet made out of a different type of wood?

The rear of the cabinet is made of a sheet of 1/4 ” birch bead board. I picked through the stack looking for one that matched somewhat.

Very nice looking cabinet. Good use of reused lumber. Probably some very good lumber like you said, tight grained. Old growth probably.
