This guy was just born last week. My second attempt at the intarsia look. The waddle was easy (offset wheels) but the flippers were a challenge. I started with pivoting individual flippers pulled down inside the body with cams and strings. It was bulky and cumbersome. My friend John Hutchinson recommended the pivoting arm that he had used in his camel design years ago. It worked perfectly. There is a cam on the axle and a drive dowel inside that pushes the flipper arm up. This fellow will be in Woodworker’s Journal sometime soon.
I’m entering the 21st century kicking and screaming. Check this out
