This is a project that I began when a neighbor had a baby and I was trying to think of something original to give to the proud parents. Well, it went over well so I have continued it for our friends that are bringing in the future generation. I hope to present this one with a dual picture frame type of setup so they can place the pictures of their newborn with the pacifier as a decrative addition. Sorry about the sawdust that is apparently on it. I didn’t notice it, but the camera did. LOL.

Another great piece Os. You do wonderful work. Do the next one in Sassafras so the baby will smell and taste rootbeer.

O.k. guys! I appreciate all the compliments, you are so supportive. When I gave the first one I made sure to tell the parents, not to let the little one put it in its mouth. This is not to be used to pacify the child, it’s a momento, something to put the childs name, date of birth and weight on possibly around the rim. I’ll have to measure it, but it is about 2.5” long with a 2” rim. The nipple is roughly 1.25” X 1/2” at the thickest part. I tried to make is child safe as possible, thinking that it would be hard for a child to swallow with a 2” rim.
Chip, a rootbeer tasting pacifier! You’d never get the kid to quit wanting his/her pacifier!

I think it sucks. :-) j/k Way to go. I wasn’t expecting to see something like that on here. I like the sassafras idea.

Actuallu Os, after reading his blog, I don’t think we’d have to worry about getting the thing away from the baby nearly as much as getting it away from Karson! ;-P

What a unique gift to present to the proud parents. It’s one of those items that will be kept with the bronze baby shoes!

Great idea Os. Maybe you can also make a stand for it, then put the baby’s stats there? It can be a display to last for many years. Maybe spaces for additional children, if that happens.

That is so cool. Nice work. What kind of a finish did you use? I have a friend that gets me all kinds of hardwoods. He cuts fire wood and every so often he will bring me some black walnut, cherry or elm. I’m going out to his place soon to pick up an 8 foot log of cherry. Its about 8 to 10 inches in diameter. Bet that would make a lot of pacifiers. Great job.

The finish is Shellac which is non-toxic once dried. Thanks Bill. My first one had a hole in the end so it could be put on a loop and just hung. My second on was done with a stand and the nibble was pointing straight up. It’s hard to come up with a mounting that doesn’t take away from the pacifier, itself. I appreciate the comments and suggestions.

A great gift for new parents.
Isn’t that something how the camera can amplify dust. I took a bunch of turnings off the shelf one day for pictures, & when I put them on my PC, they looked like they hadn’t been dusted for years.
