Another plywood bowl but a little bigger than before. Started out with about 14.75” x 4.5” blank and ended up with a 14” x 4” finished piece. Glad I have no more plywood left because it’s sort of dirty to work with. Got a chance to try out the Carter rest for the first time. Wheels we at about 4 and 8 o’clock for support. I think your suppose to remove the top and use 2 wheels on the same side for bowl work but I think this worked out fine. Piece ran nice and smooth and I think it helped. This is the largest diameter piece I’ve tried so far on this lathe and everything worked out okay.
On another note. I still make some little stuff like pens, flowers, calls and do spindle type work but this big lathe is the best investment tool-wise I’ve ever made. Set the tool and fun money fund back a good bit but it’s living up to its mustard monster rep quite well. Well beyond my skill level right now but it’s fun trying to catch up.
