Not exactly fine woodworking, but a fun project for the kids.

Constructed from SPF 2x and pine 1x. Pre-stained, leaving the joined areas bare, TB 3 applied with 12p nails. 1/2 galvanized wire applied with pneumatically driven 1” crown staples. Nesting box has solid pine floor. All inside exposed wood finished with shellac (non-poisonous). Roof is cedar shakes over a 1x frame.

I finished this a month ago, but we kept the bunnies in the basement while they were still tiny and it was sub-zero out.

Today is a the big day for migrating out of doors… And I reclaim the basement :^)

Lots of good advice over at rabbittalk.com if your going to have bunnies for pets, or raise them for “other purposes”.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work, and you managed to make your family smile—that makes anything worth the effort! Always had rabbits as a kid. Sure brings back some memories.

This turned out nice Matt….the girls look happy! Hopefully they stay up on the chores that go with the hutch!

Nice looking hutch. My experience with bunnies is that if you have two it won’t be long and you will be up to your eye balls in bunnies. Good luck.

”...spoiled bunnies…”

I would have to agree.
That hutch is a better abode….
Than my first apartment!!!

Good to see your shop helpers smiling!
Well done…
Building both the hutch & family memories!!!

Nice rabbit hotel but it looks like maybe you should have gotten snowshoe hares. Can’t believe the girls let you put em outside.

Now that the hutch is outside, I’m hoping the chores are less than in the basement. Their supposed to use the little house to keep warm, but while they were in the basement they turned it into the toilet :^(

But just tonight I saw one of them pee out the side of the cage…. so maybe their getting the idea.

Charlie, my buddy who helped me haul the hutch out of the basement used to raise rabbits and we had him check them… all three have a kick stand…. so no magic multiplying rabbit colonies on the horizon.

Andy, as soon as my buddy started talking about how they spray several feet when they get all charged up with hormones, I looked at my wife and said OUTSIDE TODAY. We keep infrequently used cookware and a sizable cache of canned and dry goods on shelves all around where the hutch was….. Bunnies days would be numbered if they sprayed on any of that!

A good project, a win, win for you the Rabbits and the kids. The children will never forget working on the project. If you grow Tomatoes save that Litter tomatoes love it and it don’t burn the plants, great job.

Good looking bunny house, Matt.

Several years ago, wife and I watch a Micheal Moore propaganda flick where he interviewed a gal who raised bunnies. She had a hand lettered sign that read “Rabbits for sale Pets or meat”
Thought you might find it humorous but, don’t tell the girls!
