This piece of wood came from a man I like to buy small burls from off of highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mtns. I picked up the clock hands and the thermometer at woodcraft. I had trouble finding a way to put numbers on the clock. I decided to carve/burn out the lettering and then paint gold paint into the numbers. I then planned to sand off any extra. As I started sanding I noticed that the gold paint had entered some of the cracks on the wood and created lightning bolt look alikes. Very cool. I proceeded to fill all the cracks and have one more sanding. It came out very nice.

When I started finishing I realized that the rub on poly was dissolving my paint and I needed to work quickly with little rubbing if I wanted the paint to stay in the cracks.

Beautiful clock! The burls is gorgeous and great accents on the carved numbers and gold paint.
