I built this from all reclaimed cypress from three different homes, dating between 1850-1900. The drawers are poplar. It is finished with amber shellac and paste wax. The drawer pulls were forged by a local blacksmith.

welcome to LJ’s that reclaimed cypress is quite lovely. Are the pulls true to the period? I don’t know that I’ve seen any like that & they are large for the drawers. being a northener, I’m not as familiar with southern furniture as I should be.

A very beautiful table. I like the grain orientation on the two outer drawers, fantastic looking.

I built the desk for Destrehan Plantation, and asked the blacksmith who also works there to make whatever kind of pulls he thinks would be best. They seem a little large, but the design is very pleasing.

That is beautiful! That reclaimed cypress is a LOT darker than the cypress (bald cypress) around here. I love it!

Cypress is just awesome wood. Never worked with it, but I’ve always wanted to. Seems like the prettier sister of pine. Well done!
