This is a mallet to use on our new lathe in the woodshop in the High Chapparal park. It is the first project off the lathe. The head is made from a piece of Idaho mountain mahogany that had too may inclusions in it to be good for anything else. The handle is a piece of cedar off the new firewood pile. The handle has an oval section in the hand grasping area. Although the cedar is purple now, when it is exposed to sunlight for a while it will be as brown as the head. The head is 5” long and about 2” in diameter.

It is finished with clear gloss lacquer…....................Jim

Good looking mallet Jim.
Is that cedar a lot stronger than Western Red?

BTW are you coming down to the gem show this year?

Thanks Tony, Grizz and Paul.

Hi Paul. The cedar is light weight but I don’t know about comparative strength. It is working real good to hammer the pieces into the spur drive.
We are going to the gem show on Tuesday with another guy from Apache Trail. If you are there then, I have my phone on- 630 551 6075….....

That may be too pretty to bang on stuff with Jim….looks like it should be mounted on a presentation plaque for some retiring judge or office holder…. beautiful work as usual buddy

Definitely stout! That should do any job you ask of it.

If you put a longer handle on it, you could make a good ole Crochet set! LOL

Very COOL mallet!

COOL WOOD!

Good looking mallet Jim! How much does it weigh? Nice burned in (?) detail on the head. Thanks for sharing.
