Stylized Boot and Decorated Brogue

BABY! It’s cold outside! This morning it’s -25 C in Calgary, Alberta. So I decided to stay indoors and post this project.

Two types of carvings – a stylized work boot using Rocky Mountain Juniper with it’s strong colour and grain pattern. I decided to leave it plain as any carved details would not do the piece any justice. The other carving is a detailed and revealed casual brogue made out of basswood. The lack of colour and grain led me to texture the shoe showing characteristics of a brogue. Both carvings were finished with a matte spray.

At this time I would like to share my news about these two carvings. They are two feature projects in my DIY carving book due for release June 2014 from Schiffer Books. You may see the announcement at http://www.schifferbooks.com/power-carving-boots-shoes-5473.html.

The book is titled, what else??—Power Carving Boots & Shoes

Now for a hot rum to warm up!

Cheerio, Roman

I like the different designs, Roman. Very nicely done! Are you the author of this new book?

Who better to write a book on the art of carving wooden shoes than you Roman?! Congrats on that news and nice work on this project…. as usual.

Today is Friday and the weather is a bit better – -12 C.

Littlepaw, yes I am the author of the book. Been working on it for the past two years. The carving was the easy part. Putting together the 240 pictures and doing the manuscript was time consuming. But Schiffer has done a great job with the pictures and layout of the book. The company even selected one of my images (Amur cherry hiking boot) for the cover of their Spring/Summer 2014 catalog.

I’m looking forward to June!

Thank you all for the nice compliments. Roman

Hi Richard, They certainly are fun to carve and one can add any characteristic to the carving they want. As I finish one boot, a host of new ideas surface for the next one! Roman

A couple of beauties, as we have come to expect from you Roman.
That is a nice promo write up on the site, I expect it will be a winner (Hope so)
I reckon if that’s the outside temp then you deserve at least 2 hot rums :)
Fabulous work
