My Grandpa's Old Ashtray

This used to be my Pap’s old ashtray. After he and my Nan passed I asked if I could have it. I decided that I wanted to make it my own so I repainted all the black and cleaned up the wood with some furniture polish to bring out the origional color. Then I ran LED lights up through the middle and glued them in the tray. I covered the lights with green flat marbles (green for Marshall University) then poured a 2 part epoxy over top and made it in to a small end table.

I like it! That would be nice to have glowing in a dark room after coming home from swing shift, sipping some hot chocolate while reclining in chair with my lovely bride next to my side. But since it’s not mine, I hope you enjoy it! Great retro fit.

+1 on great imagination and novel use of the original ash tray.

Cool ash tray! Like the black paint and the top looks amazing with the lights and marbles. I’m sure Pap and Nan will be happy that you restored it. Great work!

Have your say...
