My dog keeps getting into the bathroom trash can. The last time he did, I pulled some dental floss hanging out of his mouth and a 2 foot section came out of his throat. So I needed a way to stop him from getting his head in there. I created this cap from sapele, but only covered half the can, so I can still drop things in the can and he cannot get his head in there anymore.

I could use one of those and then something to keep my dog from getting up into the table. Hope it works.

Great idea. The dental floss could be fatal if ingested. Long strands of string, floss, panty-hose can cause intestinal blockages.

Bad doggie!! :)

I wonder why dogs get in to trash cans—and why they would eat dental floss? I mean, how good could that taste?

Anyway, great solution to the problem!

My dogs love to eat Kleenex. The one dog will take it right out of the box.

I wish I could figure out why they like dental floss, I agree how could that be a treat. Right Kleenex too, pretty much anything I discard they get into. Even cans in the recycling bin, if I don’t wash it out well enough.

I have to keep the TP roll up on the back counter in the bathroom. My Golden discovered early on if he grabs the roll hanging in the built in holder and twists his head it pops out and the roll becomes a new chew toy…

Great story Dave, goldens are great dogs regardless. Glad mine haven’t found the TP…yet.

What stops Fido from just knocking over the trash can and helping himself to its contents?

Well if Fido was smart enough, you are right, hopefully since the can is in the corner that won’t happen, or I could always glue it to the can.

That’s funny Jim, I guess he was flossing, the vet did say his teeth look great

My lab is a Kleenex eater too. Right out of the box also. We bought cans with a foot pedal and lid but she figured those out. We hid the cans under the bath room counter but she learned how to open the doors. So maybe I’ll try the half lid thing. Hopefully it works cuz I’m getting tired of being outsmarted by my dog.

Shawn you have a seriously smart dog there, or seriously focused, or both. Good luck, you need it!
