This presentation box and gun grips are a present to my father-n-law. This was the side arm he use to carry when working on the ranch when he was in college. The gun has no real value, except sentimental – it just a .22 for varmints. The grips used to be these hideous plastic horn grips. Now they are hand carved, burl walnut.
The box is walnut and maple and based of a recent Wood Whisperer Guild Build project. I incorporated the majority of the guild techniques except this is solid wood, not veneer, and i used a different finish. The hardest task was defiantly the quadrant hinges. I chose not to purchase Brasso’s jig, so the mortises is all hand work. Next time, I’m getting the jig. Both the box and grips were sanded to 400 grit and finish is Tried and True (linseed oil and bee’s wax).
