Maple burl. Trying to keep a live edge. About 16”. Be careful of the live edge it can bite you. Was we’ll over a year old and still wet inside, have sealed it and will give it a few more months.

You are braver than I am. I have blood on some of my projects too but at 16” that chunk of wood looks dangerous.
Now that it is hollowed out you could speed up the drying using a microwave oven drying technique (look up on Google search)….assuming it will fit in the microwave oven. I use the microwave often and it does a great job.I currently have an 18” walnut bowl blank at a similar stage of turning and unfortunately it won’t fit in my microwave so I will play the waiting game.

Glad I’m not the only accident prone woodworker. My wife thinks it happens to often, I thinks it just the price of doing what I enjoy! By the way, that’s a pinky, not a thumb. ( the nail is almost off)Thanks for the comments.
