Inspired by DonB’s project post a couple days ago. I made this for my cousins boy who is turning five this weekend. Center section is 3/4 birch ply, body and fenders are 3/16 pine. I made a quick template by just cutting largest to smallest as I went. As each template was cut I retraced it again for a future template. In the last pic shows the axle assembly in 5/16” hardware less the wheels. I drilled an undersized hole and pressed in the long coupler nuts from both sides. It is painted with dark bronze hammered finish spray paint. During assembly I used high test locktite on the threads. This was a quick fun project and the inline skate wheels really take it for a ride with a good push down the street. Yes, I had to play with it before he gets his present;). Thank you for looking and a BIG thank you to DonB for his inspiration and fine work.

Wow! You are just as fast as the car. You didn’t waste any time getting one of these put together. Nice ride! I will have to try one… or two soon. Just not as soon as you did. ha ha

Thanks WC. Looks like you went to work immediately after I posted mine. You’re right, they do fly and the wheels as bumpers will save you from being in the doghouse.

Hammered paint looks great! I like the “white walls” out on the wheels! Makes it look snazzy! Thanks for sharing.

I’ve always thought that a pine wood derby for adults would be an awesome attraction at a sports bar.

You don’t have to admit to “playing with it”. Just say you took it for a test run to check quality control. Go ahead, I think you can still edit. -:)

Looks great and fast. Like the finish and the wheel. I’m sure the kids and adults will enjoy playing with it.
