Cracked Pot The Witch's Cauldron

I was turning whatever blanks were laying around the shop and I found this little Bradford pear laying there. I got it started but it had a couple of bad checks and as I turned it to see if I could get rid of them it started to look like a cauldron. I liked that but the checks went almost to the center of the blank that is when the cracked pot idea hit me. I used some CA to strengthen the checks then turned it to finish. I left some tear out to make it look old and used.

I think I will turn a little wand to go with it just cause I can and to continue my idea of the witch’s pot getting broken.

Looks very nice and has a lot of character. I hope the crack doesn’t get any bigger for ya.

Good looking bowl – too bad that the cracks appeared. I have some Pecan that I’m afraid is going to do the same thing.

I like the cracks. Gives it character. Nice work. I have a lot of pear and had a lot of the same problem. I got most of it to stop cracking by turning a little at a time, wait a few days then go back. Good luck and keep turning.

Thanks everyone for all the comments. I don’t worry about the cracks if I did i wouldn’t turn much with what I have to work with. This blank was cracked really bad but that is why I got to make it into this. It all works out :-)

Great turning piece, it’s worth saving. The wood has pretty grains and figures. Great shape and finish as well.

It’s got a nature of it’s own and I like it.
