This box is made with African Mahogany & Quilted Sapele. The dovetail splines are Mahogany, as well. The handle is made of Bloodwood. My wife and I used Potassium Dichromate for the finish along with a coat of oil. We also put the Dichromate on the Quilted Sapele on the inner lid but it made it very dark. We were glad that we tested it out on the inside first.

This is a gorgeous box. I like the look of the quilted sapele.

The quilted sapele is really nice – is that a veneer, or did you use solid timber for the top panel?

David, The sapele is a veneer and it turned out pretty well. I only wish that I would not have put the potassium dichromate on the under side. I learned a VERY valuable lesson that day. ALWAYS test out your finishes first. Thank You all for the kind remarks. I have alot more pics of my other work, I just did’nt think anyone would be interested in looking at it. I am very new to LJ’s and so far am loving the experience. I like the fact that everyone is so nice and helpful with anything that comes up. I’m going to add pics of my shop soon because I enjoy looking at all of yours. I have gotten some great ideas on some things I could improve in mine. Again thanks to all, I’m having a ball here. J.C.
