A few years ago we were given an oak kitchen nook table and benches, however the original oak table top was fairly worn and I wanted to make something a bit more substantial and attractive. I was able to source a nice natural edged padauk slab from my favorite local wood company, which I sanded down and finished with a heavy coat of resin for a nice durable finish.

Oh, our 18 month old gives it all he’s got. The great thing about the resin finish is it is somewhat self-healing. If it gets too beat up over the years, a new thin coat on top is all it takes to look new again.

That’s a very nice table and finish! I’d like to know more about this resin… what’s the brand?

The resin is simply tabletop resin finish from Home Depot. It took two packages to cover this 4’x3’ top.

What is your favorite local wood company. It appears from this and your other projects that you have easy access to nice materials.

Great projects!

HoneyDew – Tropical Exotic Hardwoods in Carlsbad, CA. They are amazing in their inventory, selection, price and customer service… I buy all my wood from them.
